President Larry opened the meeting right on time. Norm Sr. lead us in singing God Bless America, then in honor of the rain we sang “Wait Till The Sun Shines Nelly” (Wait till we know the words Nelly).
Our visitor was Jens Jacobs who will soon be honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
We welcomed our newest member, Jennifer Cushing, who is the Practice Manager at the Ottauquechee Health Center.

Blood Drive this Friday Aug 8, Reinhart says set up is at 9:45 and take down is at 6:15.
Reinhart is still taking orders for Rotary T-shirts $20.00 and hats$15.00
Lobster Bake at Silver Lake next Wednesday Aug 13 at around 5pm. Come early for Volleyball and set up. Rich has ordered Sunshine for the event J

Mark your calendars for Rotary on Sept. 24th as Cindy announced that is the date for the Adult Senior luncheon with us.
Macy Lawrence will be going back to Nicaragua next Friday to move the $750,000.00 worth of medical supplies to the Rivas Hospital. Macy has been asked by the Nicaraguan health minister to tour three more hospitals and help make recommendations. As Macy says, this project has taken on a life of it’s own. What a wonderful difference Macy has made!
Upcoming District 7870 membership seminar at DHMC on August 14. Larry and Bob would like some company, especially since the subject is membership and we have lost 5 members recently.
HELP: Jim Pierce who is the new chairman of the Christmas tree sale needs a volunteer to co-chair.
Larry read the letter of resignation from Peter Vollers and accepted it with deepest regret.
Farm & Wilderness annual fair on August 9 from 1-9.

PENNY SALE UPDATE: Gary thanked the major donors. He’s still working on the grand prize, however all of the nitty-gritty work is done. Members should have tickets to sell by August 20th!! We will be showing the video “How to sell Rotary Tickets “soon.

Birthdays, Anniversaries & Happy Bucks: Jim Pierce B-day Aug 8. Harold’s 21sth anniversary, Reinhart‘s18th anniversary . Happy Bucks: Reinhart for the trip to Switzerland during Lufthansa strike, and first dinner in his 90% finished kitchen. Dick was happy that during his hiking and fly-fishing trip to Wyoming the Grizzly bears looked but did not touch. Candace is happy that her mother will turn 80 on 8-8-08 at 80 River Street. She was also happy that her vacation to Indian lake ended with glitter moisturizer… Jerry was happy that the golf course is so good and the Clark Dairy Farm is now in the VT Land Trust. Beth is happy that now the construction down town is almost over, the town looks really great. Frank is happy that Jens is back and his wife just accepted a job teaching Spanish to the children in our area schools. Charlie was happy that his daughter just signed a lease on an apartment in New York.
Our very own Dr. Lynn Peterson gave a very interesting power point presentation and commentary on his recent trip to China.

President Larry, a.k.a. “The Hardware Hunk” read a thank you note from D.G. Allie Boucher and informed the Club of recent resignations received from Richard Vidal and long-time members Dick Gaull and Dean Merrill.
Announcements and Reminders
- Volunteers are needed for the setup and take-down at the 8/8 Blood Drive- See Reinhart.
- The District is looking for a Team Leader (must be a Rotarian) and Team Members for the upcoming Group Study Exchange to the Philippines – See President Larry for detail.
- Joan advised that our exchange student from Chile is expected to arrive August 11. We are still looking for several host families. See or email Joan if you know of someone who might be interested in being a host family.
- The annual Boynton Bake is 8/13. Sign up and pay Carol by 8/6. Members are free and guests are$25/pp.
- The Meals on Wheels Program currently has a shortage of volunteers for the months of July and August. Contact Joan Randall or call the Senior Center to help out.
- Penny Sale Update – Letters have gone out to the Major Donors. If you or your business is one – please get your check for $150 to Sandie or Norm, Jr.
- The Woodstock Historical Society Ice Cream Social as postponed and will now be held on Friday August 1.

- Charlie English celebrated his 73rd birthday in April – somehow we missed it.
- Happy Birthday to Mike Chamberlain who turned 60 in July.
- President Fred was fined $1 for his picture in the VT Standard – turning over the gavel to President Larry.
- Happy bucks were paid by Candace, Charlie English and Fran in appreciation of the good deeds of others
- Bob Holt reminded us that it was Dick Gaull who created our Scholarship Fund that is now generating enough income to award $9,000 in scholarships annually. The Club plans to honor Dick and recognize his contribution in some way – more info to follow

President Larry opened the meeting right on time. Phil S noted that Larry was looking kinda desperate. Larry said he thought there would be many more desperate moments during the next 47 weeks, but who’s counting.
Visitors:Austine Sherrod was the guest of Mark Sherrod. Bob McCollom was the very happy guest of Connie Miller. Laurie Cullen was the guest of Dave Barrell for the last time.
Announcements: Larry advised Rotary is looking for someone to go to the Philippines at their expense. If you are going to the Lobster bake you need to sign up & pay Carol before the 6th of August. Joan is still looking for another home for the “nice boy” Mark Sherrod said he would be happy to ask Deanne about it. Macy has returned from yet another VERY successful trip to Nicaragua. It is absolutely amazing the work that he has done there. Mark Sherrod is selling green bracelets with all proceeds going to the Listen Emergency fuel program. Please see Mark if you would like to purchase one. Larry got to pay a fine since he is the new boss & his picture showed up in the paper.
Happy Bucks: Rich celebrated his birthday watching the Yankees lose while getting soaking wet with his daughters. Connie Miller gave a buck for her month long trip to the Mediterranean, being married for a year and the fact that Greystone is now their official home. Dick Rueben did have a lot of friends until Gerry came along recommending bike routes. Mark Sherrod jumped up & down when Deanne & the kids left. However, he realized after the first hour that they would not be home for 10 long days & that he missed them already. Dave Barrell reported that his son that had a serious accident a couple years ago sent him a picture taken of him while skiing on the 4th of July. Tambrey tells us that Woodstock held its first swim meet in the new pool & she thanked everyone that made it happen. Charlie R was happy that Macy returned alive even though his flight was cancelled & his luggage got lost. He also commented on the girls driving into the parking lot singing “Girls just want to have fun” & the fact that he thought Sandy Morris looked absolutely ravishing……. Carol is looking for a volunteer to let Bob McFadden know that they do sell men’s shorts that are nearly as offensive. Janice was proud, as she should be, of helping out with the Prouty. Harold bought Owen a lift kit for graduation, which he quickly installed. He almost made it to town when one of the tires fell off.

President Larry opened the meeting right on time, which was a good thing because we had lots to listen to.
Guests of Rotarians: Devlin Chambers was the guest of Lisa Gramling.
Speaker: Alice Boucher, District Governor of 7870 told us that RI President D. K. Lee wants to make dreams real. He does not want us to daydream he would like us to turn dreams into reality. Some of his dreams are clean water, for everyone to be able to learn and world peace. Alice is going to focus her year on the eradication of polio.
Alice presented Fred Hunt with a plaque in recognition of his service as our club president for the past year.
Peggy Stone was inducted as a new member and she promises to wear her rotary pin every day.
Announcements: President Larry thanked all who helped parked cars for the fireworks. Candace told us that Greg had so much fun being abused by people that he can’t wait to do it again and again and again. The Boynton Lobster bake will be August 13, 2008 – mark your calendars. Beth Finlayson reminded everyone about the fabulous farmers market on the green every Wednesday afternoon.
Happy bucks: Dennis was thankful that the DG was visiting as that gave us a reprieve from Bob’s spandex. On the other hand AJ was astounded that Bob made it all the way to Tunbridge in his spandex. AJ is also happy that his daughter is on her way. Lisa G was happy to have her nephew Devlin as her guest. Charlie Rattigan was happy that his video won a “tele award” for the second year in a row. Dave Jealous was happy that Lauren Skaskiw, our ambassadorial scholar, boarded a plane to Australia on Monday although he is not sure if she arrived safely yet. He also gave $5 for the 5 years that he led the Interact Club. Peggy Stone went to Colorado where she learned she has awesome triceps. Ann comes to us from Stonington and she says Woodstock fireworks are far better than Stonington. Phil S gave a buck for all the people that were harassed while parking cars as he sat on the dock watching fireworks somewhere far away from Woodstock and all the rude people who wanted to see how high they could make Greg’ blood pressure go.

Our speaker was Laura Skaskiw, who is our District’s Ambassadorial Scholar. Laura will be spending a year in Australia, going to school. She shared with the Club the presentation she will be giving about Vermont while in Australia.
